Australian Government Releases New Skills List. On December 7, the revised Skills in Demand visa will supersede the outgoing Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) visa. Main Ideas: The new Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL), which was also part of the news, affects the Core Skills stream of the new Skills in Demand visa.

The Skills in Demand and National Innovation visas, among others, will undergo revisions on December 7, 2024. We will provide further information on these changes shortly.

Revised Core Skills Occupation List to Address Australia’s Skill Gap

Australian Government Releases New Skills List: As promised, the new CSOL streamlines the temporary skilled visa program’s outdated, confusing occupation lists. Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) did employment market research and consulted with stakeholders to create the CSOL, a single combined list. This makes temporary skilled movement easier for 456 different jobs.

From December 7, 2024, the new Skills in Demand visa will take the place of the Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) visa. The CSOL will apply to the Core Skills stream of that visa. Direct Entry applicants for the permanent Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) visa will also be subject to the CSOL.

What effects will the amendments have on companies and others seeking skilled visas?

There will be no more employer-sponsored skilled migration schemes for jobs that aren’t on the list. These include the Skills in Demand Visa’s Core Skills Stream and the Subclass 186 Visa’s Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS). Skills in Demand Visa’s Core Skills Stream and Subclass 186 Visa’s Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS) will no longer accept employer-sponsored skilled migrants whose jobs have been removed from the list.

If you are looking for expert guidance on alternative skilled visa possibilities, OZVisa is here to help. It is not necessary to have a specific occupation on the Skills in Demand Visa’s list in order to apply under the Specialist Skills Stream. However, a minimum guaranteed salary of $135,000 is necessary (with the exception of tradespeople, machinery operators, drivers, and laborers).
